Depression Evaluation and Medication Management in Maryland

R&K Wellness Group provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adolescents age 15 and older and adults experiencing depression, persistent sadness, low motivation, loss of interest, fatigue, changes in sleep, or difficulty functioning.

Depression can affect how you feel, think, work, study, interact with others, and manage everyday responsibilities. Symptoms may develop gradually or appear after a major life change, loss, illness, stressful event, or period of ongoing pressure.

Our approach begins by listening carefully and understanding how your symptoms are affecting your life.

Who This Service Is For

This service may be appropriate if you are experiencing:

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or irritability

  • Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities

  • Low energy or motivation

  • Sleeping too much or not sleeping enough

  • Changes in appetite or weight

  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

  • Feelings of guilt, hopelessness, or worthlessness

  • Social withdrawal or reduced functioning

  • Difficulty keeping up with work, school, family, or self-care

Not everyone experiences depression in the same way. Some people primarily notice sadness, while others experience irritability, exhaustion, physical discomfort, emotional numbness, or a loss of motivation.

Comprehensive Depression Evaluation

A depression evaluation involves more than reviewing a symptom checklist. We assess your current symptoms, duration and severity, psychiatric and medical history, medications, prior treatment, sleep, substance use, stressors, functioning, safety, and personal goals.

We also screen for anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related symptoms, bipolar-spectrum symptoms, substance-related concerns, and medical conditions that may contribute to changes in mood or energy.

An accurate evaluation is important because symptoms that resemble depression may have different causes and may require different treatment approaches.

Medication Management for Depression

When medication is appropriate, we discuss available options, expected benefits, potential side effects, alternatives, and the monitoring required.

Finding the most appropriate medication may take time. Treatment decisions are based on your symptoms, medical history, prior medication response, current medications, co-occurring conditions, safety considerations, and personal preferences.

Medication is not automatically prescribed at the first appointment.

Our Treatment Approach

Our primary services are psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Visits may also incorporate supportive therapy, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral strategies, motivational interviewing, behavioral activation principles, and practical steps to improve daily functioning.

Treatment may also include recommendations related to sleep, routines, physical activity, stress management, social support, psychotherapy, and coordination with other clinicians.

Our goal is to create a plan that addresses both symptoms and the ways depression is affecting your everyday life.
